So the first thing that happened in March of 2023 was that the small software company I was working at collapsed and laid everybody off. I looked for work, but I couldn't seem to get very motivated about it.

I started thinking - maybe there's other things to do, maybe there are different kinds of work. But I didn't really do anything all summer. This caused increasing tension in the household. Then on July 21 I had a weird memory thing. I woke up and couldn't remember what happened the day before. The whole day was just a blank. It was very upsetting, but I don't think I told anyone. I sent myself a very brief email about it labeled "BrainFog" in case it happened again.

Life continued, but the memory thing happened again on August 8. By this time things with Julie had gotten worse. We were talking about a healing separation, and Julie was getting more and more frustrated. Julie would ask why I wasn't doing things around the house, I would say I didn't have time, even though I wasn't working. It seemed more true that I didn't have the will to do things.

That time I told Julie and I saw my doctor, who took me off the anti-cholesterol medication I was taking.

When the memory gap happened a third time on October 2, my doctor sent me in to get an MRI.
