Waterspouts in the eye of Hurricane Lili
I got this sent to me from a coworker, who probably got it from someone at Halliburton - who knows. This was the info I got with it. Pretty amzing picture!
The picture was from late Wednesday (10-2-02) when the eye of the hurricane went over their oil platform out in the gulf. Notice that the water in the picture is very calm. There is no wind in the eye.
Tornados (waterspouts) only form quite close to the outside walls of the hurricane eye itself.
Their helicopter evac transports were scheduled but were like 3 hours behind schedule because of the high demand for the helicopters all over the gulf.
It took about 15-20 minutes for the eye to pass over this EXXON platform . . . then all hell broke loose again.
Scary.
